My memories have often
burned with the heat of shame:
being laughing at when I
dropped my ice cream cone
letting my family down
by not being like them
letting myself down by staying
in bed and not greeting the day.
Tonight I sit with moments of
pure holiness:
Watching a perfect baseball game
at Shea Stadium with my grandfather
as we stood cheering with delight.
Discovering I was pregnant
that my body had become
the vessel for a burgeoning miracle.
Seeing my daughter held up
to me at the moment of her birth
God’s ruach breathed into her.
Sitting with my mother as she
let go of life with grace and
dignity, as she lived her life.
I remember God reaching out to me
as I reached back…in holiness.
I’ve decided to participate for the first time in #blogElul, which I have followed for a few years. I’ve never had the courage to get my feet wet – this year, I’m jumping into the deep end of the pool! Check out some of the amazing themed posts geared around the work and joy of Elul – of introspection and reflection in the days leading to the High Holy Days (Organized by Ima Bima.) You can read last year’s and this year’s #blogElul posts via the Elul tag.
